My Halloween was a fun one. It started with an art show at Universal Bar and Grill in Universal City. The show started out with me and one other vendor sitting on the patio in the dark for the first couple of hours, but once the event coordinator arrived, things lightened up.
It was AMAZING to be able to bring as many pieces as I could carry and have a table to set them on. All of the shows I've done up until then were ones where I could only hang 3 or four pieces. I have an inventory of close to 100 pieces, so this was my display on Halloween night:
(Yes, I brought my pieces to the show in my cat carrier!)

I had never been to Universal Bar and Grill and it seemed the crowd was mostly regulars who knew each other. They were all very nice and receptive to my and the other artists' work. I sold three pieces that night! Woohoo!
The day after Halloween I went to Orange County to have lunch with my Great Aunt and Uncle whom I haven't seen since April. It was so lovely to see them. They are the last remaining relatives of my grandparents' generation that live close to me and that I see on a regular basis.
It really reminded me how important it is for me to see family when I can. It also made me see how lucky I am to have them. I don't know many people who are close with their great aunts and uncles, but I have been very close with a number of mine and I am so grateful for that.
There was my Great Auntie Mori who never missed sending me a card and gift on Christmas and my birthday for as long as I can remember. And my Great Uncle Dick surprised me by making a trip to my high school graduation. He had said, "Of course I'm coming. You are very special to me."
Up until last year I had my Great Aunt Linda and Great Uncle Pat to spend Christmas and New Years with when I couldn't go home to Arizona. These people are my history and these are people I cherish to no end.
Saturday when I was with my Great Aunt Jane and Great Uncle Hideo I had my Little Hibachi pieces in the car still from the night before. I brought them out to show them since they had never seen any of them in person, only pictures online.
I didn't think my Great Uncle would be that interested in them, but as I was pulling them out and setting them on their table, he surprised me by taking one of my signature cloud pieces and taking it over to the mantle where they have pictures of the family. He set it down and then stepped back to take a look.
"You like that one?" I asked him.
"Yes, I think it looks good there," he said with a smile.
I showed him a few other colours it came in and after switching them around a few times he settled on the dark green one. I think it looks great!
